Trees and shrubs
Local name: Harlequin Glorybower, Glorytree or Peanut butter tree
Farges harlequin glorybower. The leaves of this tree smell quite like peanut butter. Shrub-like growth. The shrub usually makes ground shoots like a Rhus would. It is wise not too encourage this growth by disturbing the surrounding soil, shovelling, spading and so on. The leaves are not that special, a bit glazed and egg shaped. The rest of the tree makes up for that though, the flowers are white and have a dark pink calyx. Spreads a delightful scent. Shortly after the flowering, bright blue berries emerge within the dark pink calyx that is remained from the white flowers.
Multi trunked shrub with large scented leaves. Flowers abundantly with white flowers and a red wine coloured calyx. Height 4-5 meters. Can make ground shoots, our tip: Don't plant anything underneath and leave the surrounding soil to rest.
Young plants are better to be planted after the winter, because they tend to freeze in during this period. Therefore plant Clerodendrum in a sheltered spot to avoid this.
Bloom time:Augustus - September
