Cladrastis kentukea
Local name: Kentucky Yellowwood or American Yellowwood
Kentucky Yellowwood. A beautiful tree that reaches about 10 meters in height and has a flat crown. The leaves are compound out of fairly large oval leaflets. The most beautiful part of this tree are the flowers, in May-June the long white flower clusters appear, they have a close resemblance to the Wisteria flowers but are slightly more slender. The scent is wonderfully sweet and can be smelled from a distance. It will take a few years before seeing the first flowering on this tree. During autumn the seed pods appear in a green colour, later these will turn purple brown.
